Infants (from 4 months)

The BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Toddler class was established in 1999 and caters for children from 14-months to 3-years old. Our qualified and highly experienced staff know exactly how to provide a safe, engaging and nurturing environment for the child. This class supports the physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of each child.

Our Montessori Toddler program introduces children to a variety of hands-on activities in a carefully prepared environment, assisting each child in developing confidence in their emerging abilities. Our Montessori specific materials help the toddler develop his senses and refine his movements. Through exploration and specific tasks, the toddler increases his ability to concentrate and work independently while creating foundations for learning.

The activities in the toddler environment further develop gross motor coordination, fine motor skills, and language skills.

Through the use of real-life activities, children are offered the opportunities to gain independence in daily tasks, which promotes trust in themselves and their world. Everything in the toddler environment is proportionate to the child’s size and is designed to be accessible, safe and aesthetically pleasing for your child.

Each child receives one-on-one lessons throughout the day to ensure real understanding of each concept taught. In our multi-age classrooms, children learn from each other whilst learning to socialise.

In addition to a variety of dynamic Montessori activities both indoors and outdoors, our toddlers are introduced to art, music and physical education.

Preschool (3 – 6 Years)

BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Preschool was established 33-years ago and forms the heart of our school. It is through our high standards and excellent results that we have grown steadily through the years. Our highly experienced, qualified and very dedicated staff work one-on-one with your child, respecting each child’s uniqueness and ensuring positive progress through the Montessori curriculum.

The BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI preschool classroom is a dynamic, prepared environment conducive to maximizing your child’s learning potential. Our children get to choose their work from specific work areas which contain a large variety of materials for the refinement of sensory perception and the development of literacy and mathematical understanding. Our environments offer opportunities for imaginative exploration leading to confident, creative self-expression.

BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Preschool environments foster the growth of functional independence, task persistence and self-regulation (neuroscience predictor of future success). We provide our children with an early foundation that includes a positive attitude toward school, inner security and a sense of order, pride in the physical environment, abiding curiosity, a habit of concentration, habits of initiative and persistence, the ability to make decisions, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility to other members of the class, school, and community, all the while, promoting social development through respectful, clear communication and safe, natural consequences. This foundation will enable them to acquire more specialized knowledge and skills throughout their school career. Music, art, dance and physical education are part of our integrated BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Preschool curriculum.

In a nutshell, our children are very self-assured, independent, and absolutely love school.

Primary (6 – 13 Years)

The BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Primary was established in 1999 and was a natural continuation from the preschool experience, into their Primary years, allowing our children to continue enjoying our forward thinking education allowing them to really connect with knowledge with our unrivalled curriculum in our carefully prepared ‘multi-age’ environments, namely Junior Primary 6- 9 years and Senior Primary 9 – 13 years. Our curriculum offers opportunities for collaborative intellectual exploration in which each child’s strengths and interests are supported and guided and where the development of self-confidence, imagination and intellectual independence as well as their insatiable curiosity and excitement for learning is nurtured.

Children in this age group are starting to realize that the world is an enormous, interesting place. They are primed to study continents, cultures, scientific concepts, and great literature. We foster an understanding of the child’s role in their community, in their culture and in the natural world where they begin to discover the interconnectedness of the universe. The world becomes their classroom. At BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Primary, your child will have the opportunity to learn absolutely amazing things! Our classes are continually filled with joy, excitement and enthusiasm for learning maths, science, language, botany, zoology and geography. Our children are deeply engaged in work that they find interesting, meaningful, and often intriguing.

At BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI Primary, we integrate art, music, computer studies and physical education into our curriculum. Our children carry their passion for school into their team sport, music and art participation. We pride ourselves in our high level of competitive interschool sports participation, unique to BUCCLEUCH MONTESSORI, we regularly win fixtures in soccer (won two Jabulani interschool soccer tournaments and broke a record in our U-11 team for being undefeated), cricket, softball (won the Arnold classic and some of our players were chosen to represent Gauteng in the regional team), athletics, cross-country and netball (players chosen to play in the regional team). In music we continually achieve the highest accolades in national eisteddfods – both instrumental and choir. In art, we achieved an ‘A’ average for our entries in to the Art eisteddfod. We have an annual concert production at the barnyard theatre whereby we stage a spectacular revue in which every single pupil takes part, performing to an audience of over 600 people. Our children continually work on outreach projects with our ‘Spirit of Ubuntu’ team whereby they assist where they can in the underprivileged communities and animals in distress. Our primary children go on annual camps.
